Mind over matter

Mindfulness. The word seems to be everywhere these days... And for good reason!

Mindfulness, to me, is the practice of staying in the present moment, aware of sensations and feelings but not looking forward or backwards to the the things that are out of your control.

How do you become more mindful? Like improving at anything, it takes consistent practice but here are some tips to get started!

  • Incorporate yoga in to your life

  • Meditation

  • When you feel your thoughts start to wander, acknowledge it and return to the present moment

  • Breathing techniques for calmness and meditation

  • Understand that it may take some time! Slow progress is still progress.

Why would anyone want to be mindful? Mindfulness has been shown to improve both physical and mental health. When we stay mindful and in the present moment we alleviate stress and anxiety.
