Small steps lead to big results

Ever thought to yourself "oh man, (insert goal here) is never going to happen. Why is this taking so long?!".

Yes? I figured as much. I mean, I've thought it millions of times..

Last night in Boot-Y Camp we covered this topic during the yoga portion of the class. Here is a hybrid of what I said in class and whats hopping around in my brain :)

What drives you? What is the force that causes you to do the things that you do? When you are unhappy with something in your life, how do you fix it? Sometimes all it takes is..

One. Small. Step.

One step in the direction of your dreams. One step in the direction of your goal. However big or small it is, one step in the right direction is all it takes to get started on your journey.

Focusing on the small step instead of the larger goal narrows your focus so that you are not overwhelmed by all the impending work.

Let's say your goal is to lose 20 pounds. Focusing on that end number will only stress you out or leave you feeling dejected when it seems to be taking forever. Instead, focus on the smaller goal of losing a healthy 1-2 pounds a week. Celebrate each milestone! Give yourself a pat on the back for the discipline and effort you demonstrate day in and day out that pushes you dow the path to your goal.

Alternatively, is your goal to hit that amazing yoga pose you saw on Instagram? Well, first off, many yoga teachers can't even do those poses. It doesn't mean they don't work towards it! Break down the pose in to progressions and work on each step. You don't go from never having done the splits to jumping and landing on the ground in the splits overnight! You work on many different facets of hip openers and other related poses until the pose become accessible to you. Each time you hit a new progression, you'll be that much more motivated to keep going and keep hitting new ones every time you practice.

Just waking up in the morning is a step in the right direction. When you open your eyes, when you feel your heartbeat, be grateful. Two of the greatest gifts we receive each morning are that we are alive and that we are able to move about. Whatever the next steps are after that are up to YOU. Make the most of it. Appreciate it. Take care of your body - your vessel. It, too, is a gift. It is the only place you have to live so make sure you treat it with care and respect.

Of course if you are unsure of how to get started, that's what I'm here for! Reach out through the contact tab or send me an email. That could be your first step ;)
