Breath. That little helper inside of us that will get us through almost anything.
This image was my phone background for a long time until I swapped it for one of my nieces and I (priorities!) however I now understand why it appealed to me so much.
During the first weekend of my yoga teacher training we discussed the importance of breath and how it is able to help us through difficult situations. By using breath to endure the difficult poses on our mats we are learning to transfer that power in to our daily lives. If a difficult situation arises we are trained to use our breath to calm the mind, let go of the difficulty and push through.
One of our pieces of homework is to do 12 sun salutations (so that’s 24 sets, 12 on each side), each morning, for 21 days. Why 21 days? It takes 21 days to form a new habit. 3 weeks until it becomes routine. This has already proven difficult for me and I am only 2 days in. When I wake up in the morning I am usually rushing to get ready due to all the times I pressed the snooze button. Today I only snoozed twice and managed to get up with enough time to get my sun salutations in. I made it halfway through the 12 before I had to stop and get ready for work but I am proud that I was able to start. There’s only improvement from here!
The things that scare you or are difficult for you are the very things you should be doing as they serve to make you and your life better.
