Yoga recovery and photo shoot
As some of you readers may be aware I've had a rough month. I've had to postpone my competition to April partly because of that. Postponing the show doesn't mean that I will stop training and following a meal plan - I still have goals! Starting this week, I will be following a progressive overload program for my workouts. This means that each week, I will increase the weights that I am using for each exercise. This will exhaust the muscles but help them to grow. All about tho

Birthday reflections at 29
Last year when I turned 28 I wrote a blog post that looked back on the year I had - I reflected on how I had hit rock bottom and come out stronger and better than before. This year, I look back on the 366 days (it was a leap year!) since then and am so proud of the person I have become. My 28th year on this earth was one of immense self discovery and growth. I competed in my first body building competition a couple of weeks after turning 28 and eventually began preparing for

I'm not a yogi?
I don't have a daily practice. I don't like meditating. I eat meat. I curse (a lot). I eat non-organic vegetables. There are many advanced postures that i can not do. My yoga mat cost under 20$. I am not a "typical" yogi. When I step on my mat everything else going on in my life disappears. I can do tripod headstands and tables and several balancing asanas. I am flexible. I can touch my toes. I do my best to live in the present moment. I acknowledge that the universe has powe

Strength
"oh you're so strong" "wow, you're brave" "you inspire me!" All possible reactions to someone's perseverance when faced with difficulty. What if you don't want to be strong? What if you just want to curl up in a ball and never leave the house? Well... What if that's not an option? You HAVE to be strong. You HAVE to persevere. You have to prove to yourself that you have what it takes to overcome ANYTHING. Where to begin?? Start small! You left the house today? Pat yourself on

Interview with Melanie Richards - Yoga and Bodybuilding
Melanie Richards, Founder of Happy Tree Yoga studio, incredibly sweet woman and the amazing teacher of my yoga teacher training graciously agreed to answer some questions about yoga and its benefits in relation to bodybuilding. Make sure you read to the end to see how you could win two free classes at Happy Tree Yoga Studio!!! Bodybuilding and Yoga - Introduction
A major difference during this prep is that I have a regular yoga practice! I've noticed that it is helping me to recover quicker and to keep me grounded throughout the stress in my day-to-day life and the stress the exercise is putting on my body. I approached Melanie Richards, owner of Happy Tree Yoga, about doing a blog series about this connection! She happily agreed, so I am ecstatic to bring to you a 4 week series about the benefits of yoga for regular exercisers, parti

I'm doing what?!
I haven't been too vocal about it on the blog or on social media (on the Mitzfitness side) but I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag for those that haven't figured it out already: I'm competing again!
I decided to compete with IDFA once again this year in the hopes of placing this time around. No longer am I prepping as a means to get "back on the wagon" or for a personal challenge - I'm in it to win it. It's been about 11 weeks since I started. With 4 more weeks
